Although many musicians are unfortunately still unable to practice their profession well,
we have been very lucky this summer:

The SHM festival Lübeck

With Tangata & Jeannine Geerts we were allowed to play at the Schleswig Holstein Musikfestival near Lübeck.
What a party:
750 seats outside in the sun of Pronstorf castle, where the public could enjoy us
Tribute to Astor Piazzolla  performance.

We were moved to finally be able to play again after such a long silence and waiting!
We realized how long Tangata has been playing together and how close we are.

Garden concert Amerongen Castle.

After the Schleswig Holstein Musikfestival Trio Tangata played 2 performances on 1 August
with Aubrey Snel saxophone in the castle garden of Amerongen,
a beautiful special day with many enthusiastic reactions.

Tuscanny Tango in Querceto with Trio Tangata

Following the performance in Amerongen, Trio Tangata traveled to the beautiful Querceto in Tuscany.
Here from July 31 to August 7 it was Tuscanny Tango Holiday event organized.
In this magical medieval village in the heart of Tuscany, all kinds of tango activities were organized for a week with workshops, performances and technique / body awareness exercises led by 4 renowned maestros.

A week of concerts under the stars and breathtaking natural beauty,
great dancers and audience. How beautiful is that!

Castelnau des Fieumarcon

How beautiful: to be invited again to play at the Castelnau des Fieumarcon.

Also there, besides meeting my Portuguese and French friends, I gave 2 concerts together with Ad Colen in the castle tower where the grand piano from Lisbon (Palacio Belmonte) had been transferred since this week.

The BBC was there filming for their documentary series “How to run a castle” starring Anali. From my “Luces de Belmonte’ recordings were made that will be included in the documentary. Hilarious, and special!

Dutch Tango Week

Back in the Netherlands, the beautiful performance with Kees Scholten and Gustavo Cabrera for the international Dutch Tangoweek was allowed to continue online from the beautiful Muntgebouw Utrecht.

In short: I really enjoyed so much music in amazingly beautiful and historic locations all summer long. It was possible again, hooray🌹🙏🏼

11 March 2021 it will be exactly one hundred years ago that the great bandoneonist and composer Astor Piazzolla was born in Mar del Plata, 500 kilometers south of Buenos Aires.
As a tribute to our great inspirator, Tangata will this year focus on the “ Tribute to Astor PiazzollaProject.

Because our inspiration for tango music largely started with the love for his music, Tangata will play a new performance, where his music is central.

If the borders can open again, we can be seen again this summer at the end of July at the world famous SHM festival! And tour Germany

5 from October 2020, a new project and a new duo has emerged:
together with Ad Colen we explore the possibilities of combining Jazz with Tango and our own music.

Ad Colen, is a Dutch jazz saxophonist, composer and band leader. Colen played the guitar, but eventually opted for the saxophone. He studied at the conservatory in Hilversum and studied with Dick Oatts in New York City

Very nice ! Last month (March 2021) we made film and sound recordings, more news will follow in the coming weeks.

The Courage to Leave is a performance by Kees Scholten (voice / actor, Emmy Storms (violin) and Margreet Markerink (piano).
During the festival, Emmy received the honorable title & #8220; Artist in Residence & #8221;

In December 2020 I performed together with saxophonist Aubrey Snell in the Alphense Raadhuis for KHABBAZ Cultuurplatform on location with our performance Bach meets Piazolla.

In this performance we performed music by both church musician Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) and composer and tango innovator Astor Piazolla (1921-1992).

In the fall of 2020 I did a project with Flamenco guitarist Martijn Nanninga.
In various performances we played our own compositions and traditionals from Argentine tango and Southern Spanish Flamenco.

We made a musical quest: how can I find a place in that tango music with those strange rhythms and how can Margreet handle my flamenco songs. This led to interesting discoveries that we would like to share. We also perform solo and perform well-known pieces from our own repertoire. ”

Quarantine Sessions & #8220; Sequime si podes & #8221;

This video from the series of 3 tango “quarantine sessions” films that I made in summer 2020 together with and conducted by Christiaan van Hemert (bandoneon / violin and artistic direction / editing) and fellow musicians worldwide.

These “leaders” from the (tango) music world contributed to this:

bandoneón 1 & #8211; Victor Hugo Villena (Argentina / France)
bandoneón 2 & #8211; Santiago Cimadevilla (Argentina / The Netherlands)
bandoneón 3 & #8211; Christiaan van Hemert (The Netherlands)
violin 1 & #8211; Derk Lottman (The Netherlands)
violin 2 & #8211; Andrea Karina Bentivoglio (Argentina / The Netherlands)
piano & #8211; Margreet Markerink (The Netherlands)
guitar & #8211; Elliot Muusses (The Netherlands)
bass & #8211; Joel Locher (Germany)

For me it was an honor and celebration, despite the fact that we all recorded from home, to know that we played in this special line-up!
A sunny moment in this sad Corona time.
